The Village of Radium Hot Springs offers a variety of services for residents and guests visiting the area. A listing of some of the services provided by the Village Office is shown in the "Services" block on the right.

Below is information regarding owning property in BC and in the Village of Radium, as well as other information regarding utilities, dog licenses and volunteering.

ASSESSMENT NOTICES

Your Property Assessment Notice is mailed out at the beginning of January. The Notice comes from the BC Assessment Authority, not the Village Office. If you do not agree with the assessment, you have the opportunity to challenge the value. However, there are strict deadlines for filing for a review, so please ensure that you read your Notice carefully as these dates are indicated on the Notice.

PROPERTY TAXES

Property taxes are billed once per year, usually mid-May, and are due on or about July 2nd (depending on the Canada Day statutory holiday). Property taxes can be paid by cash, cheque, debit or online/telephone banking. Payments CANNOT be made at a bank (some banks accept the payment, but simply forward it by mail to the Village, usually resulting in a late payment and penalty). If you pay by online/telephone banking, please allow sufficient time for the transaction to occur.

Any amount outstanding as of 4:30pm on the due date, is subject to a 10% penalty. Post marks are not accepted.

Taxes that remain unpaid by the end of the year become taxes in arrears as of January 1 and begin to accrue daily interest until paid.

UTILITIES (water and sewer only)

Water and sewer utilities are invoiced three times per year as follows:

First period - January - April - billed beginning of May
Second period - May - August - billed beginning of September
Third Period - September - December - billed beginning of January
Payment can be made as noted above.

GARBAGE/RECYCLING

The Village does not currently offer local garbage pick up. Residential garbage can be taken to the rural Edgewater Transfer station (located about 10 km north of Radium). Large items, such as appliances, furniture, yard waste, propane cylinders, etc. should be taken to the Columbia Valley Landfill site - located south of Radium Hot Springs, near Windermere (about 18km). The landfill site is open seven days a week from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm. It is closed on Christmas and New Year's Day. There are drop boxes for the public and an on-site recycling depot with yellow bins and a glass bin.

There is also a Reuse Centre located at the landfill site. Any household items that are in good working condition can be dropped off at the Reuse Centre.

WATER CONSERVATION

Water use, on average, doubles during the summer months. Much of this increase is caused by needless water waste. By using water wisely, you will waste less water and cause less stress on the Village's treatment and distribution system.

As the Village of Radium Hot Springs grows, it is important to maintain water conservation standards and to remember that conservation does not mean doing without, it means using our resources wisely.

Users are asked to restrict their water use to watering only on the days that correspond with their address. For example, a house number ending with an even number should water only on calendar days that are even numbered and vice versa with house numbers that end with an odd number.

In Radium Hot Springs, water conservation measures are in effect from JUNE 1st until SEPTEMBER 30th of each year, with no watering of lawns and gardens between 10:00am and 6:00pm. Watering during the heat of the day is ineffective and results in evaporation and waste of valuable water.

DOG LICENCES

In accordance with Village bylaws, all dogs over the age of four months are required to be licenced in the Village. Even if you do not own property here, but are a renter, you are still required to license your dog.  You may obtain a licence at the Village Office. The current fee is $10 for a spayed or neutered dog, and $40 for one that is not spayed or neutered. Please complete the Animal Registration form located to the right. Please bring veterinary proof of alteration when applying for your licence.

VOLUNTEERISM

Radium is fortunate to have a dedicated group of volunteers who run our library, fire department and organize the many public events held each year in the Village. But, as with most groups, the same volunteers are called upon time and again to offer their services, which eventually leads to burn out.  Our public library and fire department are continuously in need of volunteers, as is the Rec Committee (responsible for events such as Winterfest and Radium Days). If you are interested in helping out any of these groups,please contact the Fire Chief, Dave Dixon, at 347-6455 or drop by the firehall on Monday night when practices are held.
