Bylaws, Regulations & Enforcement

Gary Burford is the Village of Radium Hot Springs Protective Services Officer and is responsible for enforcing Village Bylaws such as:

  • Nuisances and Unsightly Premises
  • Noise Control
  • Special Events
  • Signage
  • Fire Inspections
  • Parking Issues

Some of the other issues the Bylaw Officer deals with are:

UNSIGHTLY PREMISES

Every year, the Village receives complaints regarding premises that have become unsightly. The lot is usually overgrown with weeds, tall grass and other unattended growth. In keeping with the intent of not allowing property to become unsightly for safety, health and enjoyment of the residents of the municipality, the Village asks that property owners cooperate in keeping their premises free of overgrown weeds and grass (Littering, Garbage and Unsightly Premises Bylaw No. 334, 2007). If a premise becomes unsightly and no action is taken to remedy the situation, a letter will be sent to the owner by the Bylaw Officer, and the owner will be given five (5) days to clean up the lot.

SIGNAGE

The Signage Bylaw Regulation is frequently inquired about and is briefly explained here:

The Signage Regulation Bylaw is intended to enhance the attractiveness and economic well being of the Village as a place to live, visit, vacation and conduct business. It is also intended to reduce the dangers of construction and installation of unsafe signs or signs that may create a traffic hazard. All signs, unless exempt from the bylaw, require a permit.

When is a Sign Permit required?
Any signage being considered for commercial or industrial business requires approval through issuance of a Sign Permit.

What is required for a Sign Permit?
An applicant must complete a Sign Permit Application Form supplied by the Village office.

How long does it take to process a Sign Permit?
An application may be completed within one to three days.  If an application must go through Council for final approval this may take up to four weeks depending on when the application is received and the date of the next Council Meeting.

What costs are involved in getting a Sign Permit?
The fee for a Sign Permit is $60.00 per sign.
